ISI MARK
The Companies Registration Act of 1860 was used to establish the Indian Standards Institution (ISI) as a business on January 6, 1947. The organization’s unambiguous mandate as India’s National Standards Body was to create and encourage the adoption of standards by Indian industry. The Standards Institution of India thereafter launched the Certification Marks Scheme under the Standards Institution of India Act (Certification Marks) 1952 to raise the caliber of products and provide the advantages of standardization to common customers. The “ISI Marking Scheme”—as the program is commonly referred to—was launched in 1955.
